Future Day at wpd windmanager

3. Mai 2017

Taking a glimpse into the future – that’s what 21 intrigued pupils, both girls and boys, dared to do on Thursday, April 27, 2017. On the so-called Future Day, they took the opportunity to look behind the scenes of the wind energy sector and to get information on the various job fields in renewable energies. In close cooperation with Deutsche Windtechnik and wpd AG, the participants took a course through the different departments of wind farm management – from the planning to operations and on to wind farm service.

In the control room for instance, the junior wind manage looked the first level support over the shoulder, being able to monitor the status of each single wind turbine generator in real time. Which aspects to consider in project planning of a wind farm, the participants learned from the experts in the wind farm planning department. How to replace older wind turbine generators with newer and more modern technology in repowering was another item on the agenda of the Future Day.

The pupils received further practical insight in the training room of Deutsche Windtechnik in Huettenstrasse. They could look into the innards of a Vestas V90 wind turbine and practice abseil training or programming of a WTG control. The Future Day was rounded off by a quiz on wind energy, with which the newly acquired knowledge of the junior staff was put to test right away.

The Future Day was met with great enthusiasm by everyone involved. Some of the participants even asked for a place as working student. Besides the fascinating insights into the wind energy sector, the pupils praised the open working relationships and the flat hierarchies.
