BNK: Around 1,000 WTGs contracted to wpd windmanager

11. März 2021

With over 5.6 gigawatts of total capacity worldwide, wpd windmanager GmbH & Co. KG manages a large portfolio in wind farm management. Within Germany the company is responsible for the operational management of more than 3.5 gigawatts. In the area of demand-controlled night-time labelling (BNK), this volume presented many challenges and a high level of effort for wpd windmanager.

„2,000 turbines pre-audited for demand-controlled night-time labelling“

„In the past few months, we have carried out the preliminary audit for BNK obligation of around 2,000 turbines, of which about 1,000 wind turbines are obliged to undergo BNK,“ explains Jonas Lesch, BNK expert in Technical Management at wpd windmanager. „In addition to the preliminary audits, our range of services includes handling the multi-stage approval procedures, manufacturer- and system-independent consulting, and wind farm- and site-specific implementation.“

Market share of 10 percent

According to industry estimates, around 10,000 WTGs across Germany are subject to the BNK obligation. Around 1,000 of these turbines have already been commissioned to wpd windmanager. But more to come: Until now, the company offered all BNK services exclusively to existing customers and cooperation partners. Now wpd windmanager is expanding its BNK services and, in addition to portfolio wind farms, will also take over the BNK processing of external WTGs – both neighboring wind farms and other parks of existing customers.

BNK expertise in demand

Since 2018, the operating manager has already been intensively involved in demand-controlled night-time labelling. Through networks and cooperations with manufacturers, other operators and operation managers, wpd windmanager has contributed significantly to establishing industry standards. The company also contributes its expertise to committees and lectures on all aspects of BNK, project implementation, systems and approval practice.
